As far as movies are concerned this year didn't ended properly for me. I went to Lucknow an awesome place to visit but it was 5 degree Celsius outside so it was a mixed enjoyment, inside I had to watch television and I saw Drona with little kids, don't wanna tell anything about that movie. As I returned Raipur, people persuaded me to see 3 Idiots claiming it to be 200% paisa wasool, finally watched that movie. I keep this movie in ICBE category, will elaborate about it later. Also I watched few animated movies this winter but all of them were not satisfying.
Let's talk about 2009 movies now. It started with a totally new kind of cinema ,opened with mixed reactions and loaded with a remarkably original and varied music any Indian movie had ever. Movie was Dev D , a modern take on Devdas and I want to say it was not bad at all ;reason it was out of league and broke all stereotype figures that Sharat Chandra's Devdas had. It's was nice to see such movies coming.
Next was a wonderful movie though it was not a hit but was a brilliant movie. Movie was Luck By Chance and it marked the directorial debut of Farhan Akhtar's sister Zoya. A remarkably fine movie which has soothing music and worth watchable. Next movie is one of my favorite movie of this year. It's Gulaal , it the result when you put all trained actors in a single movie and ask them to work with a brilliant director who scripts every character cleverly providing an identity to even the smallest characters and also a contrast in form of another character – true playwright style and that's Anurag Kashyap. Movie revolves around dirty College Politics, Aristocracy and a secret Secession Revolution. One actor who truly will be remembered is Abhimanyu Singh who played the role of Ransa in Gulaal
We also had movie like Delhi 6 which probably came 15 years late and Chandani Chowk to China about which I don't wanna get started.
Summer had IPL so movies were not released finally New York came , which I felt doesn't had that grip than Khuda Ke Liye which also was made on same issue. After a long summer we finally two movies came Love Aaj Kal and Kaminey. Love Aaj Kal was a story of two tales of different eras , some part were enjoying but mostly were irratating but even though Saif Ali Kan was good at his part. Next Dhan Te Nan which really rocked us, Vishal Bharadwaj's Kaminey which was enormously enjoyed among fans. It is an example of how to make a commercial movie yet not getting apart from cinematic value of the movie. Sahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra probably played their life best performance in Kaminey. A Indian take on Guy's Ritchie style was worth enjoyable and a welcome change.
Next an actor who was also in popular figures of this year for his game show and finally , finally , finally he managed to delivered a hit which he wanted, and it's name was too Wanted. I keep it in the category ICBE again. Moving on to the person who was in limelight from starting to end of Second half of this year and deserve an appluad for his growing maturity towards cinema , none other than Ranbir Kapoor. He came up with wonderful Wake Up Sid and Rocket Singh though Azab Gazab Ki.... was a disaster. Wake Up Sid was the cleanest movie of this year, yah I wanna state that..Brilliant music too and is a worth watchable plus it is one of the movie I have seen which focused on the beauty of Mumbai rather than abusing Mumbai. Rocket Singh was a honest movie but had an abrupt ending, it's marketing was not done well by Yash Raj because their entire energy was focused on their another movie "HIT IMPOSSIBLE". Azab Gazab.. was poor as well as pathetic, it was just a bunch of good songs. Paa also came which showed the reamrkable performance of Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan. Before going to ICBE category I want to tell that I am telling about music of the movies also because I want to tell that we make even better music than "Jai Ho" and world should be aware of that. If Jai Ho could win Oscar then we have dozen of songs much superior than it that we make every year.
Now the category of ICBE, first of all Wanted, it was a welcome for all the Salman fans who worship him like God, Salman is never rejoiced in multiplexes, he is the star of small theatres, where he got a hell fan club and probably Wanted was something that made for such fan club. To me the movie was a crap but I enjoyed it , laughing intentionally or unintentionally.Movie had terminator like action sequences , pathtetic story line and much more but even then it's Salman Khan whose was in total mood to dance, delivering dialogue ,doing gravity defying stunts which you can see.So it was ICBE's first movie ie It's Crap But Enjoying
Now Movie 2 in this category is 3 Idiots, better renamed 2 Idiots and a Prodigy.It was disappointing and sad to see that people like Raju Hirani and Aamir Khan who have a caliber to make brilliant cinema have gone down to make a masala movie to sell it like hell. Aamir Khan really looked like an Idiot to me in this movie, whatever be the reason. How can you dare to teach your Director "How To Teach". The engineering life was made fun of and abused , really it was not engineering college at all and I am sad about it however large fan following it has made but I disliked it though I laughed during this movie so it's also crap but enjoying. Till date about engineering life I think Happy Days was a good flick.
Now a few remarkable English Flicks too, I saw Star Trek it drove me almost with the same speed as Matrix generated. Next was one of the best movie of this year was Watchmen, made by Zack Snyder who made 300. It all needs a visionary director to make it to screen and Watchmen did that perfectly going from comics to movie with perfection. A superhero flick that can stand in the category of Dark Knight and Iron Man.
Next 500 Day of Summer, whatever may be the pace of the movie I love it. Next is Ice Age 3, a remarkable animated flick though Pixar's Up was more visually appealing but Ice Age touched all the emotional buttons right , preserving the charm of story, comic timing and family values. So undoubtedly best animation flick of the year. Angels and Demons was a movie which I consider is an example of how can you make a movie better than a book. Finger biting piece of music, Secret Society , Old Cathedrals all make it a perfect thriller. Now the world's costliest flick. It is the test of your imagination. The Director James Cameron asks you to first imagine whatsoever best you can imagine,first do it. Later on watching the movie you will feel that your best possible imagination was not even an inch of what the Director has made. The Planet Pandora, their natives, their love for nature and the Avatar, all make it biggest ever visual spectacle that the world's has even imagined in dreams. The detailing , the story , the nature's message all wind up with perfection. Though on that day I was bit tired so watching a 162 min runtime movie was exhaustive for me. Wolverine was also released this year but was kind of average.There were movies this year with visual brilliance but no story and soul that includes movies like metal buster Transformers 2 and from Matrix's creator Ninja Assasin which made Taratino's bloodshed a childplay. Finally one movie that I still love to watch again was
The Hangover, superb plot, quality acting and hell lot of comedy though adult comedy but it was worth enjoying and you will not stop yourself from laughing. Indeed a Boy's Movie but Hangover was a excellent comedy movie that came after a very long time.
Now, the new year has started and movie "HIT IMPOSSIBLE" released and really lived to it's name. But I was pleased to see trailer of Karthik Calling Karthik. Also Ishqia, Rann, My Name is Khan are lined up for release and finally Kites got a releas date it's 14th May 2010. Ridley Scott is back with Russel Crowe with movie named RobinHood which seems a grand version of Gladiator. Also Iron Man 2 is coming with grandeur action and even more high standard humor.
