Violent Peace in a Rusted State Machinery

We proudly call ourselves peace loving people and also claim to be the worshipers of Non-Violence. Our History tells us that we have taught the entire world the lesson of non-violence and peace, in present we are teaching the same and if we didn't improve we will be doing the same in future too because in reality it's a big hypocrisy that from ancient times, Indians are worshipers of non-violence. The background of our history is covered with disputes, bloodshed, murders and wars. Not only this, our two prime religious texts Ramayana and Mahabharat in reality are not only religious works but war doctrines also. Peace, detente and non-violence are those subjects which serves as the topic of  discussion in never ending seminars in Cities.

If you just move 30-35 km from a City, leave the Highway and move down to district road. After 10-12 km move down to rural road and you will start feeling yourself in 15th or 16th century where bloodshed, violence and murders are common things. Yesterday a man was set on fire by the mob at Gurgaon near Delhi. The man who was burnt alive was the murderer of the Sarpanch of the local area. This happened in the southern part of Capital Region. If we move towards the other direction from capital in Western Uttar Pradesh belt then the incidents of bloodshed, kidnapping, extortion, murder and rape are common day affair. This isn't true that this situation is just restricted to Delhi region. Today as you will come close to the rural parts of any city in India, you will experience a different environment which is ruled by crime, where crime is not civil offense but a part of lifestyle. In that perspective, the incident at the rural area of Gurgaon not just remains a crime but becomes the focal point that raises deep questions. Whether atrocity has become part of our life or people have lost faith in state justice and due to that when a culprit comes in their hand, they do the justice by their own because they have a belief now that fighting for justice is very long and justice delayed is justice denied. So they take law in their hands in the name of giving justice knowing that they can get a easy bail as they are part of a mob which is considered to be driven on emotions raised at the situation. But there are people who think the condition of getting arrested is a way far thing ; nobody can't even attempt to touch them. So such people blindly steal things whenever they have a chance. Last year's Commonwealth games is a symbol of this fact in which scams of worth crores were unravelled. Now scams of smaller monetary units are coming into pictures. Last year country was waiting for Commonwealth Games and the entire responsibility was given to Suresh Kalmadi. Allegations were constantly being addressed for Kalmadi one after the other but he was untouched because Government too had the prime priority to get the Games done on first hand. Once Games were over, everything changed. Kalmadi is currently in Tihar jail from last two months. May be for the first time he is spending his summer vacation in the country. More than 70k crore were spent on Commonwealth Games. From repairing stadiums to making Delhi greener; scams of worth crores were done by officials. But the scams were only of crores is not true. Whoever wherever whenever got a chance tried to steal a penny on the spot. It's been reveled now that laptops, TV sets, ceiling fans, printers, microwave ovens, Desktop PCs, mobile phones, DVD players, Web Cams, IP Phones and Projectors are missing which were purchased for the Games. The organizing committee don't have a clue that where these things went ? These are those items whose bills are present but what about those items whose bills are not present or misplaced. It's almost impossible to get the accounting of those items whose bills/documents is not present. The team which was given responsibility of organizing Commonwealth Games has all it's heroes in Tihar Jail. This proves that even after having immense ego, vanity and power these people proved themselves to be very cheap thieves.

Foreign Secretary Nirupma Rao is currently on a two day Pakistan visit for bilateral talks with her Paksitani counterpart Salman Bashir. But before these talks can start, Premier Gilani recalled Bhutto's claim of going for even a thousand year  war to liberate Kashmir during a public speech and reclaimed that Kashmiris are closely related to Pakistan than any other part of the world in terms of religion, culture and creed. When  the nation's premier is giving dialogue in such a tone then there is hardly any scope of substantial talk for Kashmir issue. The visit will be more like a vacation trip where our bureaucrats can enjoy the cool weather and will be returning back with the same point where it all started.

May be we have got accustomed to violence due to which we want solution anywhere by showing our might. Pakistani Government is not an exception, you and me, everyone we feel a little proud when we had scared somebody with our might, our position or with our social contacts. Whether we accept it or not; we are liking violence day by day. We want  the solution by force and as soon as possible. We may be getting along this way but someday when this violent nature will be absorbed everywhere then life will not be bearable and we all will be craving for peace. Why can't we start before it reaches the situation from where we can't revert back. From maintaining peace during driving, to standing in queue, while boarding in buses or trains or during adjusting in a crowded public transport. All it requires is a little patience and tolerance for others; rest will start synchronizing automatically. Regarding the anti-social elements they will be taken care by the law.
We need to have faith on the system and raise voices for system reforms. This is how society will evolve; society needs voices which have the courage to raise the concern and rejuvenate the Government Machinery so that a stronger nation can be built not a one which settles problem with bloodshed. Speaking of State Reforms, the Lokpal Bill is going in disastrous turns. Anna Hazare is an elderly with clean image but people surrounding him and forces driving the campaign might not all be clean. The Government's role is undoubtedly not positive but the Bill can't be implemented in a rush. The Civil Society Committee needs to stay clean and not go for a rush to implement the Bill because in that case there might be situation where the Government can implement a Bill that might not be much effective as there is a heavy resistance from inside and outside to forbid the Bill. The concern of Opposition can be measured from the fact that yesterday they started a Mega Campaign against Corruption in an Air Conditioned Auditorium where the Leader Opposition started the keynote and continued for around 20 minutes on a different topic. Later he was reminded that this meet is for Anti-Corruption Movement. The event was a platform to address media about what NDA thinks regarding corruption and pressurize Government but it turned out to be yet another NDA picnic on the name of fight against corruption. July will be a crucial month as the discussions will become more intense. If the intent of the campaign will be honest then the Government has to amend constitutional framework to make it more robust to corruption. Lets hope the second half of the year brings positive changes for the nation.
