Who are real Indians ?

On 5th January 2010, Supreme Court gave a historical judgment. Except  The Hindu  none in the media even bothered to broadcast or print this judgment.
Till what was the subject of belief of intelligentsia of our nation, has now been signed off by Legislature that neither a specific Religion nor a specific caste can claim the Republic of India. India belongs to all religions, caste and creed; this is not a matter of discussion any more, it’s a Legal Reality now given by Supreme Court of India.
The ruins of Harrapa and Mohenjedaro are covered with the dust of thousands of years. This very dust witnessed the coming and departure of Civilizations, spreading and extinction of Cultures, creation and destruction of Empires. From the valley of Satluj River to the basin of The Ganges , Humans have done a tremendous experiments of settlements. If the stretched historical timeline is analyzed then it can be easily postulated that this country neither belonged to a specific group in past nor belongs to a specific group in present.  Here people constantly came, established their kin and left their marks. This statement is verified by Supreme Court of India on 5th of this month. On the basis of strong historical evidences, Supreme Court accepted the Adivasi or the aboriginal population of India were the real natives of the Indian subcontinent even long before the arrival of Aryans and Dravids. Those Santhal and Munda Adivasi population whose descendants today are present in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and West Bengal. Also Toda people living in the isolated Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu and the tribal groups in Andaman Islands were the earliest inhabitants of the Indian subcontinent. Based on this fact Bheel, Santhal and Gond can be considered as the earliest inhabitants.  But History has witnessed shameful acts with these people. These were considered as Demons or Asurs. Adivasis communities were mass murdered and today also they aren’t treated well. Among the total population just 8% constitutes the Adivasi population so we can say that 92% are immigrants which includes Aarya, Dravid, Shakh, Hund, Sheikh-Saeyad, Pathan, Christians. So India can’t be claimed by a single religion or culture; this concludes that India is also a country like United States of America whose mass population is ethnical descendants of Europeans and Africans. From past four decades, North America is inhabited mainly by Europeans whereas in India the story of immigration is going on from several thousand years. We can say that not America but India is an original Melting Pot. Feeling the thought of cultural fusion in our courntry, Great Urdu Poet Raghupati Sahay or better known as Firaq Gorkhpuri wrote :

Sar Zamin-e-hind par aqwaam-e-alam ke firaq
Kafile guzarte gae Hindustan banta gaya

Basic point does not lies in the argument that who is the original native; it lies of the fact that a society or a nation is never made of a single religion population or a single civilization, in fact it is always a fusion of societies where heterogeneous societies fuses to become homogeneous at the same time preserving their own identity. The countries, who have tried of inhabiting a single society or a single civilization, have faced the same fate as Pakistan is suffering.  A Nation is created by innumerable societies and innumerable cultures. Problems start when the part of society which start considering themselves as majority and try to claim the country to be their nation, they want the nation to run with their principles. They blindly demand the nation to follow their faiths and superstitions and suffer. This is reality not a political propaganda created by a minority or majority religious group. India belongs to everyone and because it belongs to everyone it has a unique identity. This has to be understood by each and every citizen of our country.

The Year that was 2010

2010 Year passed away but it wasn't a usual one. Census started with the starting of the financial year. As a typical Indian, this year our diet was not restricted to Politics, Bollywood and Sports rather it got diversified. Some diversion were good and some pretty worse. Lets focus on the changes that started to appear in the last year apart from the usual mess.

The Political Saga

  • Without a doubt it was a year of Scams : Common Wealth Games Scam, Adarsh Society scam, Karnataka land scam, Radia tapes, IPL Franchise scandal and above all of course the 2G Spectrum scam by the end of the year the parliament was totally deadlock over the demand of Joint Parliamentary Committee. Scams are part of Indian Poltical Culture but now things have changed a bit. Undoubtedly the amount of money has touched higher altitudes but the Government is starting fearing a bit also. Expelling Ashok Chawhan, allowing inquiry on Raja and Kalmadi shows that the Big Bosses have a fear now from the public which was previously not that intense. Though Netas are to be taught as fast as possible that they are just Representative of Public and they don't have right to play with public's money.
  • The Maoist resurgent of 2009 returned. The Naxals Massacre continued to mark their existence putting their statement that they can hit with maximum impact. Derailing Rajdhani, Mass attacks in Dantewada,Silda, Koraput and Gachibowli were examples of the coward militancy by Naxalite Movement. Before the year ended the Raipur sessions court declared Dr. Binayak Sen, Narayan Sanyal and Guha guilty in its verdict. It was a mark as an example that coordination between the legislature, executive and the judiciary works and a statement was put forward clearly that "Indian State will not allow it's authority to be challenged ".
  • This year also Supreme Court rectified it's mistake done in 1996 on verdict of Bhopal Gas Tragedy by reopening the case and reviewing the previous judgment. The court send a notice to all the accused who are all out on bail asking why they should not receive harsher punishment. Next Rectification came from the Centre, it asked supreme court to raise the compensation amount to INR 7800 crore against INR 750 crore compensation that was assigned in 1989. On the ground real battle is yet to be won by bringing accused number one Warren Anderson back to India.
  • Nitish Kumar second electoral victory, the most decisive mandate ever for Bihar. As Vikas Raj replaces Gunda Raj, Nitish Kumar has been crowned for the turn around in Bihar. Communal Politics replaced by roads, schools and security. The expectations are now bigger, to stay on his chair he has to continue the glory story going.
  • Kashmiris clashing with armed forces demanding forces to leave civilian areas of Kashmir. Death after death started to haunt the valley. Quit Kashmir Movement went for four long months and pushing Omar Abdullah's government to backfoot. Finally all party delegation was sent to Kashmir to listen to the people of Kashmir and the persons who were responsible for the unrest were arrested. The valley reconciled to some extent. Today the task is to initiate the dialogue of peace and more talks with large sections of the society, all in the hope of a viable political solution.
  • This year finally came with Ayodha verdict and it's best part was the patience and way it was received. Though issue will be prolonged but public tolerance and tight law and order never allowed even a small spark to lighten up.
  • As the year ended the much awaited Telengana Report has been submitted which will be made public on 6th January 2011 which is almost like a Exam Results where the invigilators the Shri Krishna committee are as much on test as are the people of Andhra Pradesh.
  • One more story on which I blogged earlier was the visit of the World Most Powerful Person of the World to India. He might be the Biggest of all Sharks but we must not forget "Obama is not our Mama"

The Bollywood Story

Lets start with the Khan who showed remarkable courage when none from the industry came for his help. When Shahrukh Khan supported Pakistani Cricketers who were excluded from IPL season 3, the Shiv Sena went offensive almost locking the release of My Name is Khan. Theater owners were not ready to release the film. Almost every big actor and producer was silent. What gave rage was Shahrukh's refusal to apologize. It was an unprecedented battle where Shahrukh not only fought but also won as Mumbai population came out in huge support and watched the film and Shiv Sena was forced to beat the retreat.

Taking a quick Movie tour one thing is perfectly clear Akshay Kumar isn't funny anymore!! He need to reinvent himself soon. Big Directors like Bhansali , Gowariker and Mani Ratnam also loose their grip this year due to stinking of their respective movies Guzaarish, Khele Hum.. and Raavan. Next beautiful set locations are not liked by Indian population anymore. Anjaana - Anjaani, Break ke Baad, Kites, Jhootha Hi Sahi all had fabulous set location but they failed to impress the public. Next people love things set in heartland whether it was Peepli Live, Dabangg , Phas Gaye Obama Re, Rajneeti, Ishqiya all were set in India's heartland. Important aspect is that the new age Cinema is respected in India that also became evident. Small but their moderate successes led to a wave that will produce some nice cinema. Among this year's best I will keep Udaan on the top list. A remarkable desperation and struggle of a son against his controlling father and a hesitant bonding of his with younger brother. Do Dunni Chaar is a heartwarming tale of middle class Delhi family to afford a car with their modest salary together with slice of reality TV dose and genuine humor that was last seen in Khosla ka Ghosla. Next Peepli Live which marked a strong satire on hungry media, opportunistic politicians, bureaucrats and the forgotten rural population. Another remembered flick was LSD. Directed by Dibakar Banarjee it was a masterpiece before the filthy society and tried to capture the most basic human behavior and slapped a hard hitting comment on the society. Next is femme fatale Ishqiya, tale of unpredictable and untamed tale of two criminal and a widow that stroked in different ways. Lastly Phas Gaye Obama Re, a tale of a recession wrecked NRI who got kidnapped but never looses his mind when it comes to making money. A smart humor with original ideas.

Pedestrian comedies came and went like yet another year just adding up a greater total count Khatta Meetha, Action Replayy, Tees Maar Khan, No Problem, Golmal 3, Housefull.

My Name is Khan and Karthik Calling Karthik were both eagerly awaited movies of this year. In spite of brilliant acting by their leads both the movies had a snail paced story which abated the persistence of these movies in theater. Dabaang and Rajneeti  were clear financial success stories of this year. Though both of them were far from Real Cinema but presented the exact Bollywood Masala Receipe which the masses like. Good thing is young directors have a different vision and they are coming slowly but smartly.

The Sports Triumph

Incredible India would be the best word of summing up the Indian sports success of 2010. Somdev Burman showed that India can be powerhouse in single Lawn tennis by bagging the Davis cup World Group, CWG gold and then the two golds at Asiad. Athletics was the real revelation in 2010. India broke a 52 year jinx of not winning a Track and Field gold at CWG and then followed it with a 11 medal hall at the Asian Games. New Heroes were born, new stories were told and new reputation cemented. The Shooters were bang on Target with most numbers of medals at CWG and Gagan Narang was the show stopper with 4 golds. As many as 5 Indians finished 2010 as World Champions in their respective sports
For some it was a matter of habit (Vishwanand Anand) while for rest will hopefully make winning their habbit. It's definitely not easy when you are fighting the odds considering the fact that you are competing the sport where your country have never won a medal, CWG marked a rise of unknown Indian stars and their remarkable success stories. One of the most cherished success story of this year was the gold that took India to the second place in the medal tally at CWG. Sania Nehwal won three super series titles and became World No.2.
Next the final grand event which didn't had the hassle-dazzle of Sydney or the wow factor of Beijing but it was all heart. The very Indian opening ceremony in the Commonwealth Games 2010 was the biggest goose bump of the year. 3 hours of phenomenal ceremonial opening that wiped out 7 years of incompetence of the field and set the stage of 11 days of brilliance on it.
Lastly our Indian Cricket team which retained their Test Team Dominance till date. The man who held everything for India MS Dhoni became the first Indian captain to hold the IPL Trophy and guided his Blue Brigade with accolades everywhere. After a long time Asia Cup came back India, Australia were beaten in a closest victory margin by India in a test thriller at Mohali and there were similar tales of glory round the year. Very Very Special Moments of India Cricket team continued with VVS Laxman who tailored the victory over Australia and most recent one against South Africa which marked 2010 ending on the right note for Team India. But this year was special for someone who is considered as the superman of Cricket. The Master Blaster established a record of 50 centuries and earlier Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar did the unthinkable by becoming the first man in history to broke 200 run barrier in ODIs. Flawless quite like the human.

Next addition to our popular daily news diet apart from the above three popular categories is the growing concerned towards Environment. This year marked the increasing maturity in Indian Society in breaking the barriers and changing the bolts of foundations. 2011 should be considered with substantial and distinctive decisions. The year has already started and it's time to work hard once again.
